I have celiac disease, which makes eating one of my favorite meals — pizza — a little bit tricky. I’ve been on a year-long quest to find the best gluten-free pizzas in Nashville, the ones that: A. don’t make me sick (sadly, several failed); and B. taste better than my preferred frozen grocery store GF pizza. Here are the results!

📍 Green Hills, The Gulch, East Nashville, Germantown

Y’all, this is, hands down, the best GF pizza I’ve ever had. You know how GF crusts are often paper-thin and taste a bit like cardboard? Or super sugary? None of that here. Emmy Squared’s deep-dish GF crust is thick, buttery, and oh-so-delicious. The only reasons I don’t eat here more are that service can be a bit slow (hard with a kid in tow), and the pizzas are on the expensive side, with a $4 GF increase.

📍 Green Hills

Doughbird takes second place for my favorite GF pizza in town, with a flatbread crust. It’s also a smidge expensive, with a $3 increase for GF, but they offer more variety in toppings compared to Emmy Squared.

📍 Brentwood

At every other restaurant, GF pizzas come in only one size, and I’m stuck with a giant pizza I can’t possibly eat by myself. That’s why this is my most-visited pizza place, because you can actually order a half-size. Blaze’s GF pizza is tasty, affordable, and just the right size for me. You can pick your own toppings, and staff can change their gloves and utensils when asked to prevent cross-contamination.

📍 Downtown

My server here was very knowledgeable about celiac disease and cross-contamination. So I felt safe devouring my pizza, which was quite good, if a bit pricey. The pizza is enormous, with a flatbread crust. The restaurant’s greenery and Ryman views make it a lovely place to eat if you’re downtown.

📍 The Nations

I love the vibe of Nicky’s Coal Fired, with its brick walls and industrial feel. I tried the Super Shroom white pizza, and it was very yummy. The GF crust costs $3 extra and comes in only one size. But it was delicious, so I will definitely be coming here again.

📍 East Nashville & Lebanon

This is the place to go for a quick, cheap, basic yet still good GF pizza while hanging out with friends. They use a thin cauliflower crust, and it’s on the small side, so you’re not stuck with a bunch of leftover slices. ENBW also has GF beverages. I appreciate the playground where my kid can play while I chat.
