Let’s face it: The main drag of 12 South has become a mall. While it’s frustrating to see charming cottages replaced by national brands like Lululemon and Rag & Bone, there are still quite a few truly local shops and dining spots worth visiting (on weekdays only, unless you hate yourself). Check out our Overlook Map of these spots and let’s go shoppin’.
😋 Arrive Hungry
Try a classic brunch at Buttermilk Ranch; high-end Southern cuisine at Urban Grub; outstanding Lebanese food at Epice; or Food & Wine’s 2022 restaurant of the year, Locust. Wanna stay a little more casual? Frothy Monkey has you covered.
🛍️ Bring Your Wallet
Need a gift? Our fave local boutiques include White’s Mercantile (owned by Holly Williams, daughter of Hank Jr.), one-stop everything shop Serendipity, and the well-curated selection at Savant Vintage. The Brunetta jewelry truck is also hard to resist, because it’s so dang cute.
💸 Prepare To Splurge
You can seriously treat yo-self in a few spots, whether you’re grabbing fancy jeans from Imogene + Willie or Reese Witherspoon’s latest line at Draper James. We also love the contemporary fashions at Emerson Grace, the Southern-chic wardrobe staples at Molly Green, and these perfect couture rings from Judith Bright. Please do not open a shop here if you do not have at least two names.
We’re begging you. (Whitney Pastorek / City Cast Nashville)
📸 And Bring Your Camera
When in Rome, ya know? Might as well indulge in a time-honored Nashville tourist extracurricular: Taking selfies in front of murals. 12 South has a bevy of options! The original “I Believe in Nashville” mural is here, as is the terrific message of “Make Music, Not War.” Don’t forget to look for the Lego men, and impress your friends by knowing that pink stucco compound is owned by Dolly Parton.
🍺 Stay for a Nightcap
We recommend popping in for an adult beverage and a nosh at 12 South Taproom (their happy hour is terrific), but don’t forget Embers Ski Lodge — they claim the largest whiskey selection in Nashville. And if you need a growler for the road, the Filling Station is one of our city’s original beer bars, with 24 rotating taps.
