Depending on the time, downtown Nashville is a very different beast. During the day, you can explore works of cultural and historical significance, take walks on the plentiful sidewalks (one of the few areas with decent walkability), and stroll along the river. While downtown might be best known for its wild nightlife, it can be delightful to explore during the day.
