When I was a teenager, prom dresses cost $50-$150, but nowadays, they can easily cost $750-$1,000+! If you don’t want to spend a fortune on a prom outfit your child will wear for a single night, here are some affordable options in Nashville.

Free Prom Dresses

  • The local chapter of Becca’s Closet, a national nonprofit that provides free prom dresses, is in Fairview. Try on dresses by appointment only.
  • Operation Fairy Godmother 2025 will be at the Martha O'Bryan Center on March 28-29 giving away free prom dresses by appointment.
  • Many MNPS high schools have free prom dresses and tuxes for their students. Ask at the office.

Rent a Prom Dress or Tux

Renting is typically much cheaper than buying, and a great way to get a high-fashion look without spending a fortune.

  • The Showroom Nashville offers prom dress rentals. Try-ons are by appointment only, and come with a team of stylists. Rentals start at $50.
  • You can also try Rent the Runway, which has similar prices, but doesn’t allow you to try on the dresses first.
  • Green Hills Seamstress has teamed up with Jim's Formal Wear to offer prom tuxedo rentals. Appointments are required.
  • Tuxedo rentals at Men’s Wearhouse start at $99.99, and they have several stores in Nashville.

Consignment Shops & Sales

Consignments have gently used prom dresses and tuxes for a fraction of the price.

Stores With Affordable Prom Dresses & Tuxes

Before you head to Nashville’s most popular prom stores, like Glitz and Southern Belle Rose, check out these other stores with more affordable options.

  • Windsor, located in Opry Mills Mall and CoolSprings Galleria, has prom dresses starting at $10.
  • While David’s Bridal has expensive options, their prom dress sale starts at $20. They have locations in Madison, Cool Springs, and Murfreesboro. Be sure to tell them your budget.
  • H&M has affordable prom suits, and some dress options, too. They’re located in Opry Mills.
