How To File Taxes for Free in Nashville

Have you filed your taxes yet? I sure haven’t 🥴 Filing taxes isn’t exactly fun, and many tax prep services cost an arm and a leg. Here are some ways to file taxes for free in Nashville. Taxes are due April 15, so you still have time!

Through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs, the IRS offers free tax help and filing to households that earned less than $76,000 in 2024, people with disabilities, limited English-speaking taxpayers, and folks 60 years of age or older. There are numerous locations across Nashville, like Conexión Américas and the Southeast and Goodlettsville library branches. Appointments can be walk-in or booked in advance. Make sure to bring the required documents.

The IRS offers three free file online options. If your adjusted gross income is $84,000 or less, you can file with one of its guided tax software partners. Everyone, regardless of income, can use its free fillable forms or directly file with the IRS.

The AARP has many free tax assistance sites located in the Nashville area. You do not need to be a member to qualify. The program focuses on helping taxpayers 50 years of age or older, and those with low to moderate income.

Are you a songwriter? The NMPA S.O.N.G.S. Foundation partners with H&R Block to provide free tax preparation for songwriters living in Nashville or Los Angeles.

Free Tax Preparation for Military Personnel

Enlisted active military and reservists can file with TurboTax for free. MilTax software is offered for free to service members, eligible family members, survivors, and recent veterans.
